Bringing over 23 years experience in clinical medicine and public health administration, Ms. Maria Maya is a Registered Nurse licensed in Colombia and the State of New York. For 21 years she led efforts that improved Health Processes and Patient Care and Service in the network of 24 clinics of her native state of Valle del Cauca, Colombia. During last two years, she has focused on outreach to the Latin American immigrant community, conducting Health Education and promoting effective health practices, with an emphasis on Diabetes Self-Management and Chronic Diseases Self-Management.

Ms. Maya earned her Professional Registered Nurse degree at the Universidad del Valle in Colombia, with a specialization in Health Services Management. Her R.N. degree is accredited through the University of New York.

With her background of service to children, adults and older people of marginalized communities and immigrant populations, Ms. Maya provides guidance and counseling in Nutrition, Exercise, Relaxation and other preventive practices. Through governmental agencies and the Consulates of various Latin American countries, she educates and advocates for the Latino communities in metropolitan area of Washington D.C. and Maryland, working in conjunction with health fairs, churches and other local organizations.
Using her bilingual skills, Ms. Maya applies her expertise in public health administration to our outreach programs and Health prevention programs. Her role is to create, organize and nurture relationships with the Latin American Consulates where she conducts weekly patient health prevention education and recruitment efforts.
